Hair Today, Gone Tomorrow
Date: August 2, 2010 | Category: Beauty, Body Care
For most of us, hair is a constant battle. If you’re not working on increasing volume or performing a deep moisture treatment on the unruly mane, you’re busy spending the rest of your time plucking, tweezing, shaving and waxing the rest of your body’s fuzz. Often an add-on for salons, we’ve found a spot in Manhattan (three locations, to be exact), where dealing with unwanted hair is the sole focus. (more…)
VIDEO: The Story of Cosmetics
Date: July 27, 2010 | Category: Beauty, Resources, Videos
At ecofab headquarters, we’ll be the first to agree with Annie Leonard’s analysis of the mammoth cosmetic industry – “Toxics in, toxics out.” From the maker of the incredible Story of Stuff movie about our society’s intertwined economic, social and environmental concerns comes the latest in a series of short films that have succeeded in poignantly boiling complex debates down to the real issue at hand, whether it be our consumerist society or the truth behind bottled water. In The Story of Cosmetics, Leonard clues us in to cosmetic’s implications on the consumer, the worker and the environment and explains why it is that we don’t have enough adequate choices on the supermarket shelf. On Days of Unwash
Date: July 26, 2010 | Category: Beauty, Hair Care
Aside from deciding that Lulu Organics hair powder shall forever have a place on our bathroom shelf, we’ve also decided the company has some of the best advertising we’ve seen for natural products. The gorgeous european vintage packaging is beautiful – the front sticker would look incredible as a large poster. And rather than market the hair powder as a savior for days when you’ve slept through the alarm and are running out the door, or for a quick fix when you’ve O.D. on styling creme, the line simply states that the product is “a light powder for hair on days of unwash.” So civilized. We’ll be harvesting calendula, one of the main ingredients in Weleda’s Calendula Baby Care products, as well as learning about biodynamic gardening, and treating farms as complete, self-sustaining organisms. Love Life. Live Clean.
Date: July 13, 2010 | Category: Beauty, Body Care, Skin Care
Life can be messy – no one knows this more than moms. But what if the products you use to clean delicate skin with are even dirtier than the dirt you’re trying to scrub off? Conventional soaps and hand sanitizers contain toxic chemicals that can actually do more harm than good. So when looking to clean and care for your body, look no further than longtime ecofab fave EO (which stands for essential oils – like the ones used in their products, steam distilled directly from flowers, leaves, bark and wood). Natural Beauty, Hold the Parabens

The difference between The Body Deli and less eco-conscious beauty lines is the same as the divide between organic cuisine and fast food. The former makes you feel whole and satiated, the latter, sluggish and ill-fed. (more…)
