On Days of Unwash

Aside from deciding that Lulu Organics hair powder shall forever have a place on our bathroom shelf, we’ve also decided the company has some of the best advertising we’ve seen for natural products. The gorgeous european vintage packaging is beautiful – the front sticker would look incredible as a large poster. And rather than market the hair powder as a savior for days when you’ve slept through the alarm and are running out the door, or for a quick fix when you’ve O.D. on styling creme, the line simply states that the product is “a light powder for hair on days of unwash.” So civilized. In Living Nature

Established in 1987 and distributed in Europe, Asia and many other parts of the world, we’ve just stumbled upon the pot of gold skincare at the end of the rainbow (hint: the arc ended right in the luscious New Zealand countryside). Living Nature is produced exclusively with ingredients found in New Zealand – and since over 80% of the country’s plants are found nowhere else in the world, it’s no wonder this line is truly unique to what exists on the market today. It’s Coming Up Primrose

When we first walked into Los Angeles salon Primrose Organics, the sweet aroma of botanicals immediately put us at ease, as did the sunny demeanor of its co-owners, Felicia Howe and Melissa Tornay.

Los Angeles is rife with glitzy hair salons, most of which tend toward a cold aesthetic and factory-like treatment of clients. Not so at Primrose, where a light-filled interior decorated with vintage vanities, painted with VOC-free paint, and stylists’ inscrutable attention to your – yes, your – needs make for a warm ambiance. Color Me Natural

You color job may be a passing phase but the chemical damage done – to your beautiful self and the environment – is one bad dye job that will never rinse out. If changing your mane is the name of your game, rest assured that you don’t have to sacrifice true color in order to get a regimen free of nasties like PPD (a known carcinogen) or ammonia – do you really want to subject your tresses to the awful cleaner originally used to scrub toilets? No More Waiting Online for Green Beauty

Green beauty counters are few and far between, even at prominent department stores. Because we choose to eschew lead in our lipstick, we make a point of seekingĀ out product lines that are guilt-free, cruelty-free, and that will gloss, highlight, and blush us just as well as their non-natural counterparts. Ordering online is quick and easy, but why should us eco girls be excluded from the fun of testing and blending different colors in person? (more…)

Shady Lady

While you may not be as playful with hair color as Dennis Rodman, you love to experiment and change your look now and again (like whenever you’re trying to do a post-disaster-weekend permanent costume change). But we all know that ammonia-based dyes are not something to mess with (more…)
