Facing the Day

From girlhood onward, Tilvee Skincare CEO and Founder Kristie McNamara set out on a mission to beautify the world. As a precocious tween, she cultivated plants and other natural ingredients to devise beauty treatments for family and friends—a one-time hobby that has turned into a full-fledged career. (more…)
Hair Today, Gone Tomorrow

For most of us, hair is a constant battle. If you’re not working on increasing volume or performing a deep moisture treatment on the unruly mane, you’re busy spending the rest of your time plucking, tweezing, shaving and waxing the rest of your body’s fuzz. Often an add-on for salons, we’ve found a spot in Manhattan (three locations, to be exact), where dealing with unwanted hair is the sole focus. (more…)
“Into the Green” with Weleda
Date: July 14, 2010 | Category: Beauty, Body Care, Resources, Skin Care
We’re reporting from Schwäbisch Gmünd, Germany where we’re off to visit Weleda Naturals Biodynamic Gardens (all 135 acres of them) to learn how Weleda products are grown right from the earth – not a lab. We’ll be harvesting calendula, one of the main ingredients in Weleda’s Calendula Baby Care products, as well as learning about biodynamic gardening, and treating farms as complete, self-sustaining organisms. Love Life. Live Clean.

Life can be messy – no one knows this more than moms. But what if the products you use to clean delicate skin with are even dirtier than the dirt you’re trying to scrub off? Conventional soaps and hand sanitizers contain toxic chemicals that can actually do more harm than good. So when looking to clean and care for your body, look no further than longtime ecofab fave EO (which stands for essential oils – like the ones used in their products, steam distilled directly from flowers, leaves, bark and wood). Natural Beauty, Hold the Parabens

The difference between The Body Deli and less eco-conscious beauty lines is the same as the divide between organic cuisine and fast food. The former makes you feel whole and satiated, the latter, sluggish and ill-fed. (more…)
I Love Lucy

Looking for that healthy, sun-kissed glow? Attempting a perfectly smooth, natural-looking, sun-goddess bronze can often be a challenge, especially considering most self-tanners stocked at your local beauty store are chock full of toxic synthetic chemicals, making that “healthy glow” anything but. In fact, the EWG states that sunless tanning creams are some of the worst offenders in the skin category. Yikes! At ecofabulous headquarters, we swapped synthetics for plant-based bronzers long ago, but admit that few produced the golden results we’ve seen from Lucy B.’s Organic Bronzing Shimmer Oil. (more…)
In Living Nature

Established in 1987 and distributed in Europe, Asia and many other parts of the world, we’ve just stumbled upon the pot of gold skincare at the end of the rainbow (hint: the arc ended right in the luscious New Zealand countryside). Living Nature is produced exclusively with ingredients found in New Zealand – and since over 80% of the country’s plants are found nowhere else in the world, it’s no wonder this line is truly unique to what exists on the market today. Living in a Soaptopian World

Soaps can contain really nasty stuff. Many bar soaps are made using harsh chemicals, like ethylenediamine tetraacetic acid (aka EDTA) – an amino acid that binds to heavy metals, like mercury. We’re not sure what it’s doing there, but we’re pretty worried about it. The EPA reports that when this stuff gets rinsed down the drain it eventually ends up contaminating our waterways and poisoning the fish we eat. Solution? The easiest way is to go the all-natural route (which solves a host of other toxic dilemmas, too). (more…)
