In Stitches

Hailing from Brooklyn, NY’s ultra hip Red Hook neighborhood comes some of the freshest designs found in the ecosphere. Uhuru, a small design + build furniture company, sees the city as an abundant resource for material castaways, creating timeless design pieces out of objects that have been reclaimed, recycled, repurposed, reused or otherwise rejected from their original function.

The most recent collection (appearing at NY Design Week) featured three innovative new designs, including the striking Stitched Table - the slab is made from local, sustainably harvested trees (at the end of their natural lifespan), the contrast stitching from recycled detergent bottles and the steel base is comprised of 30-100% post-consumer recycled content - all finished with a no-VOC polyester powder coating (of which the unused coating can be recovered, eliminating production waste).

Hands down the sexiest band-aid job this planet’s ever seen.
