Feed the Whole World

According to The Wall Street Journal, the U.S. goes through 100 billion plastic shopping bags annually, and making them requires an estimated 12 million barrels of oil! Choosing reusable shopping bags is one of the easiest ways to cut down on your waste and take a simple step in the path towards living sustainably. Thankfully, there are now a lot of eco-totes on the market, but they are not all created equally! A little more fulfilling than most is the Whole Foods FEED 100 bag.

Made of 100% organic cotton and natural burlap, it is produced with a commitment to ensuring fair treatment of workers in audited certified fair labor facilities. Adding to the allure of the bag, each purchase provides 100 nutritious meals to hungry school-aged children in Rwanda through the United Nation World Food Program’s School Feeding Program. Watch the FEED Bag video to see the program in action.

With ease and convenience, the bag folds down into its zippered rectangular pouch so you can take it with you anywhere (and why would you want to limit it to just the grocery store - holiday shopping could definitely use a little nourishment). Usually $29.99, many of the Whole Foods stores are offering the bags at $25 during the holiday season – so get one for yourself and give one as a gift (they also make for great eco-wrapping; a gift in a gift!).

If you aren’t able to get to a Whole Foods store nearby, you can purchase the bag online here. And re-download Feed the World!

I bought one for my sister last Christmas on Amazon.com (my friend made the product page there) and she really likes it. It’s reversible, so you can either use the brown or white side.
