Case Matters

While mainstream retailers can often be one of the harder places to spend consciously, American retailer, J.Crew, has recently given us a new shopping outlet. Known for it’s well-tailored, slightly preppy aesthetic, this season J.Crew has collaborated with the sophisticated WANT Les Essentials De La Vie accessories to produce an exclusive line of Ivy League-looking laptop cases and travel bags made from organic cotton and sustainably produced leather (read: vegetable tanned, rather than dyed with toxic chromium). Double, Double Toil and Trouble

Willie Shakespeare never could have guessed that one of his more gruesome and famous plays would be the namesake of Blink-182 front man, Tom DeLonge’s very fashion forward footwear company. Macbeth might have been about greed and power but these shoes are just the opposite. Made of organic canvas, denim, homemade vegan glue, and heat-molded natural rubber, these kicks successfully maintain Tom’s rocker image while keeping in mind All the Small Things – no pun intended. Make Love Not Trash(bags)

The ironic (and unfortunate) thing about a lot of the “reusable” bags being marketed and distributed under the guise of eco-friendly, is that they are often made from materials that are, in fact, not eco-friendly. Yes, reusing items is a big tenant of environmental consciousness. Our current favorite is a line of bags with a strong message and an even stronger commitment to sustainability – the new Safari collection fromĀ Make Love Not Trash. (more…)

It’s true, diamonds are a girl’s best friend, with gold, silver and other gemstones trailing close behind. But after we discovered that gold mining is one of the most polluting industries in the world, (not to mention the devastating conflicts surrounding diamonds), we had no choice but to stop buying jewelry unless it was vintage or we knew where it was sourced.
